goodies for the holidays

The following steps are too simple to be called a 'recipe' and I have to admit, this wasn't my creation either. I discovered these guys a while ago and I don't remember where, so I owe credit to someone. They take minutes to whip up and are great for gifts, parties or snacks. They travel well too which is a bonus for me since they arrived to a party this weekend by bike :)

All you need are three basic ingredients:
  • small pretzels
  • chocolate-covered soft caramels (at home I used Rolo but here I had to find an alternate...anything will do as long as it's chewably soft)
  • nuts (I used pecans, but hazelnuts or peanuts would be awesome too)
  • chunky salt (optional)
Spread your pretzels out and place a chocolate on top. Throw them in a warm oven for a couple minutes (keep a close eye on them) until they are slightly soft. Basically you want the chocolate to look a bit melted and the candy will sag a bit, but not a big runny mess. Pop them out, put a nut on top and push it down a bit so everything sticks together. Sprinkle some more salt (optional, depends how salty your pretzels are) and let them cool (fridge will speed up the process). Tada! Salty, sweet, caramelly treats! (Bonus - little hands can help cause nothing is very hot in this recipe)
